Mallorca's mountains have a lot of fun to offer to motorcyclists. We're talking about the Tramuntana mountains, a mountain range of about 150km in length with it's highest peak of 1400m. The wellknown coastal road ma-10 from Andratx in the south to Pollenca in the north (with detours to Sa Calobra and Cap the Formentor) is worldfamous, beautiful and the most obvious to plan into your motorcycle routes on Mallorca but there is so much more.
So here we go: three switchback roads that will seriously challenge your turning skills. Countless hairpin bends on steep inclines, sometimes even harder on the way down. It can be daunting but with the appropiate motorcycle it is so much fun. These roads are all paved but don't expect immaculate condition like the ma-10 south. Make sure your bike is not too heavy, preferably one or 2 cilinder for good torque in the low revs, and being able to comfortably put both feet on the ground if this is all new to you is a must. The most spectacular road of Mallorca is a must for any motorcyclist. It's a 12 km long ride from 800 meters down to sea level, with magnificent views of the mediterenean sea and the serpentine road below. Plenty of corners, hairpins and blind turns, the famous "necktie knot", where the road makes a 270 degree turn passing underneath itself make this road a wonderful motorcycling adventure. The road was built in the 1930's with the idea of creating a tourist attraction. More ore less by hand because no modern machinery was available yet. It's hard to imagine that vision seeing it's remote location and the means of transport available in those days.
